I think the happiest times of my life were when my son was between about 8 and 12 years old. It was the time when a boy is turning into a man -- getting away from Mama. You can actually see the child develop into an adult during those ages -- you can talk to them and they talk back. Those were very happy years for me -- it was a combination of family, hobbies and good friends that was hard to match. At that period of our life it was a pretty smooth running operation.
Ed's mother, Alice, died on June 6, 1968 in a nursing home in Playa del Rey, CA. She had been ill for some time with Parkinson's disease.

On February 9th, 1971 we were awakened by the 6.5 Silmar earthquake. We all ran outside of the house. The rolling movement lasted for several minutes.
