Until later in life, the overall thing that affected my life was money. I would have liked to have done a lot of things I couldn't afford to do. Live in different places, have better cars, better clothes. It was always a question of penny-pinching, and, of course, that goes back to after my father died. Nothing was ever extra -- that was always true until I got into the better salary ranges later in life. Money was always a factor in what I did and where I went. I always had to stop and think about whether there would be enough money to do it or not. I've always lived on a salary, and for most of my life, I lived from one paycheck to another. With more money, I would have had more choices about where and when to work. I did, however, live in one of the best eras in America -- everything was always getting better, expanding.
