You are invited to Rose and Mike's
                       Wedding Celebration!

Sunday, December 5th, 4:00pm
Zaca Lake (near Santa Barbara)

When:  Sunday, December 5th at 4:00pm.
But do plan to arrive earlier (about 2:00pm) to join us for some fun
kayaking, canoeing, sailing, lounging in the Lodge, and/or hiking!
And to watch the wildlife -- deer and bears walking about (but not
necessarily together).

But, what do I get out of it?  Besides the joy of our company?
After a beautiful (but brief) ceremony, we'll feed you a scrumptious
dinner in the Zaca Lake Lodge, overlooking the lake.   Then, yummy
wedding cake, champagne and partying.  Hey, we'll even put you up
in your own private lakeside cabin with a fireplace and hot tub if you
can spend the night that evening.  The next morning we'll have an
omelet breakfast, and more kayaking, sailing and hiking amusements.

Dress?  Informal, very informal.

Where:  Zaca Lake, located in the wine country near Los Olivos.  It is about a

Zaca Lake

From the Zaca Lake gazebo.

Interesting past events at Zaca Lake:
In 1913, Flying "A" Studio filmed, The Zaca Lake Mystery, starring Pauline Bush and Jack Richardson and in 1919 they filmed, Rivers End.

More recently, The Creature From the Black Lagoon was filmed at Zaca Lake, as well as Friday the Thirteenth part three.
Lindberg landed at Zaca Lake and explored the huge air pockets trapped in caverns under the surface. He found no bottom.
The son of famous oceanographer Jaques Cousteau, also explored the lake and found no bottom. It was reported to be a frightening experience, for after he had broken through the algae layer and dove down to try to discover the bottom, he found it difficult to make his way up again.

Zaca Lake used to be the valley’s center for top quality moonshine.

F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Rolling Stones and many more celebrities have stayed at Zaca Lake. At one time the Beach Boys were interested in buying the lake.

Fun stuff to do: sailing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking...

-- phone card: there is a pay phone at the lodge,
               but no phones in cabins
-- Flashlights / batteries (you need them to walk to
               your cabin in the dark).
-- Clothes for: hiking / kayaking / sailing

DATE / TIME:
       Sunday, Dec 5th.  Arrive anytime
after about 1:30  (the sooner you arrive, the more
kayaking, sailing, exploring time you'll have).

DIRECTIONS:

-- Print a copy of this map and bring with:
       http://www.zacalakeretreat.com/map.htm

-- After you have turned on to Zaca Station Road
(or, Foxen canyon Road if you take Hwy 154)
check your odometer.  The Zaca Lake Gate is
about 7 - 8 miles up the road, on the right.
There is no sign that says Zaca Lake on it.
At about the 8 mile mark, keep your eye out
on the right for a large metal pipe gate, between
two stone walls, triangular in shape, and marked
       with the number 8000.

GATE: is big heavy pipe gate  (need a flashlight if dark)
-- Unlock the combo lock (Combo: 8593) and swing
open the gate.  Remember to close it
               and lock it behind you.
-- should the gate combo not work, call Zaca Lake
               at 805-688-5699

The entry road is a five-mile stretch that crosses through
five creek beds, including two which normally have
water flowing through them. These creeks are navigable
with virtually any vehicle when heavy rain is not an issue.
The road is steep and winding, so please watch your speed
and keep an eye out for exiting traffic, or wildlife such as
cattle, deer, fox, polecat or racoon. On arrival to the retreat
complex, please promptly register with the office, located on
the far side of the lodge from the entry road.

-- Once at the lake, follow the signs to the Zaca Lake lodge

CHECKING IN IF YOU ARE SPENDING THE NIGHT:
-- Just tell them you are with Mills party and they will
give you your cabin # and how to get to it (no keys).
-- Don't let them take any $$ from you -- you are
       all set.
-- Check in time Sunday: 2pm
Check out: 11am Monday (but you don't have to
leave the lake, you can stay as long as you wish on Monday)
-- Ask for a hiking map if you want one

CABINS:
-- Doors lock only from the inside, so leave any
       valuables in your car
-- There is chopped wood for the fireplace available
on the porch of each cabin
-- The jacuzzi jets in the the mineral bath in
       the bathroom have been disabled.
The high mineral content of the water
apparently kept clogging up their pumps.

LODGE:
-- This will be the main meeting place (you hang out here
if you are not spending the night and thus don't
        have a cabin).
-- The Lodge is a charming old building overlooking
the lake.  If you feel that the floor is slanting
a bit toward the lake, you are right. It has a
slightly slanted floor as apparently the foundation by the
       Lake settled down a bit.
-- We have non-exclusive use of the lodge
(but... so far there are no other folks
except us scheduled to be there).

PHOTOS:
We will be handing out disposable camera for you to
take photos.  Do your best to take flattering
pictures of me, and less so of everyone else.
Leave them with us before you leave.
We'll also pass around a video camera.
Afterward, I'll post some of the most interesting
photos at a website for you.

WATER CRAFT:
-- All of the boats you see on the dock are available
for free use when ever you want, no check out
required.  Just get in and row...

IF YOU ARE LEAVING ON MONDAY:
-- The gate lock combo to get out changes at noon
       to: 2120
-- You gotta have this, otherwise you can't
               get out!
